Hope in the Darkness

Like water pours from a fountain
Despair poured from her soul
Life had been shrouded in darkness
By black clouds overhead
Her mind shackled to a memory
Her heart filled with pain
Over what had been lost, never to be regained
But what was this sadness
That overtook her like a spell?
She pondered to the heavens
Why summers warming glow
Had been replaced
By winters frosty hand
And yet in the distance
There was a light barely seen
A glimmer of hope for the life to be redeemed
A candle in the darkness
For all the world to see
The Spirit of the One who knows all things
Spoke to her soul ever so gently
"Haven't I brought you through other dark times before?
Can you not trust Me, just this once more?"
It was then that she knew she could stand
Knew she would not fall
For God Almighty was holding her hand
And what lies ahead, she cannot say
But the Lord said He would be with her
And to this promise she will cling

  1. God catches each one of your soul-tears and collects each precious drop in a vial. I have a suspicion that the label reads: My Dear Daughter's Sorrow. And he stirs the liquid gently, swirling the hurt, healing the wounds, cleansing the stains....then he lifts it up to the light as a quiet smile transforms his face. He caresses your face, tilting your chin to gaze deeply into your eyes, damp with more tears yet unshed. You can hardly stand the sweetness, tenderness as he looks at you, so you close your eyes against the pain. But he takes your hands and cups them, open to his gift. Splash of liquid joy! It spills out of your grasp, overflowing the basin of your fingers, froths down your wrists to drench your sleeves, soak down into your trembling skin. The purity tingles, teases your eyes open again. But the sight defies human logic--the vial of sorrow is poised above, God's hand intercepting the stream of sorrow, and on the under end rains a miracle of Joy!

He doesn't delight in our hurt, dearest. He never wastes our pain when we bring it to him, but makes it into a work of surpassing beauty. You are beautiful.

  2. God is always there for us. We just have to believe. What once was, sometimes we have to leave behind and start anew with God. He will lead the way to somewhere better.
